The applications of manganese

Manganese is mainly used in metallurgical industry and chemical industry after being crushed and pulverized into powders by manganese vertical mill. Manganese powder has the following applications.​

1. In metallurgy

Manganese is a very strong reducing agent, it can absorb all the oxygen from the molten steel, let it becomes a non-porous ingot. Manganese is also an excellent desulfurizer which can remove all sulfur from the molten steel, adding a small amount of manganese to steel can greatly improve the mechanical properties of steel, including the ductility, malleability, toughness and wear resistance.

①In terms of ferrous metallurgy: standard ferromanganese can be smelted with high-grade manganese containing iron. Ferromanganese is an additional material for the production of special steel, and a small amount of silicon manganese can also be smelted. Silicon manganese is useful for smelting certain types of steel.

②In the non-ferrous metallurgical industry: alloys of manganese and copper can make anti-corrosion metal receptacles. Manganese bronze alloy can be used as the materials for ship. Manganese aluminum alloys have great uses in the aviation industry. Manganese-nickel-copper alloys can make standard resistance wires.

2. In the chemical industry

Manganese dioxide (pylurite) can be used as a negative agent in the manufacture of dry batteries, and can be used as a paint drier in the chemical industry. Also available in black decorative glass as well as decorative brick and pottery glazing colors. It can also be made as various manganese compounds, such as manganese sulfate, manganese chloride, potassium permanganate, etc.

Why the manganese should be processed into powders? ​​

Use pyrolusite (the main component is MnO2) as raw material and process it to the fineness between 100 to 160 mesh to prepare potassium permanganate. Since the contact between the reactants is more complete, the reaction rate is faster and the conversion is more complete, so the purpose of pyrolusite crushing is to increase the contact area of the reactants, speed up the reaction rate, and make the conversion of the reactants thoroughly.
